My classmates and I developed a new immersive digital display
for the Burrell Collection museum in Glasgow. Being the team’s leader
and sole designer and programmer, I was responsible for designing the
user experience, defining the technical and physical specification, developing the prototype, and evaluating usability. My design combined
massive gesturally-controlled projections with content on the visitor’s
own device. These large displays provided a much more immersive canvas
for content with museum artefacts projected at +1:1 scale. Webpages
accesed via QR codes guided visitors to related objects around the
museum.
Accessibility was paramount: many visitors would be using a gestural interface for the first time. My design guides visitors through the display through simple visual cues without text. Following an initial presentation, we were invited to present the project to a larger group of curators and technologists at Glasgow Museums.
