At Buro Happold, I acted asa primary contributor to an Epic Games MegaGrant project investigating real-time, city-scale data streaming to Unreal Engine. I developed innovative new procedural shading methods to consistently and compellingly render hundreds of square kilometres of masterplanning data streamed on-the-fly from Buro Happold’s backend data centre.

My approach brought non-expert stakeholders closer to the urban design process than before, allowing them to instantly visualise and manipulate design data as it enters the production pipeline. Ken Pimentel, Architecture Industry Manager at Epic Games described the result as going ‘so far beyond any engineering view I’ve ever seen’. 

I introduced Buro Happold’s Global GIS and Digital Twins Directorate to User Centred Design methodologies, developed its UI/UX service protfolio from the ground up, and acted as UI/UX Lead on multiple major Smart City projects in the UK and the Middle East. I was directly responsible for sourcing and supervising UI/UX Design sub-consultants.

The MegaGrant-funded digital twin project has been profiled in New Civil Engineer and in the Chartered Insitute of Civil Engineers’ Journal.  Discipline Director Anthony Tuffour also presented the project at Autodesk University 2023 in Las Vegas
